Cheese Cake Dressed to Impress Mary Berry at Wells Literature Festival

tanyscakeA celebration cake, made entirely from cheese was developed in Mary Berry’s honour by Ford Farm, one of the sponsors of this year’s annual Wells Festival of Literature.
Ford Farm is the maker of Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar, a PDO West Country Farmhouse cheddar aged 200 feet underground in the Wookey Hole Caves located just outside Wells.
The Cake was created by local resident Tanys Pullin. Tanys is married to Mike who is a Director at Ford Farm, a cheesemaker and the originator of Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar.
The Cake measured 70cms in height and comprised seven tiers of Ford Farm’s cheese varieties. It was adorned with huge roses made from cheddar fondant icing and topped with a book, sculpted from the same ingredients.
Tanys, a Cordon Bleu trained Chef and part-time business development consultant at Ford Farm is one of Mary Berry’s most ardent admirers and was delighted to create a completely different kind of cake to honour her appearance at the Festival.
‘We know Mary likes our cheddars as she cited Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar as one of her favourites on a recent BBC television series. We thought we would present her with some of our cheddar, in a way that celebrated the literary theme of the Festival.’
Tanys has created a number of awe-inspiring creations made from cheese in her history with the Farm including a crown carved from a half tonne piece of cheese as well as a cheese chocolate wedding cake.
